> EurekaWrite is an AI-powered essay scoring tool designed for NSW primary school students (Year 3–6) preparing for the Selective High School Placement Test (SHSPT). It scores essays against NSW Selective-style criteria and provides evidence-based feedback.

## Scoring System (Total: 25 marks)

### Set A — Content & Writing Quality (15 marks)
1. Content & Detail (0–5): Relevance, specificity, development, originality, impact
2. Structure & Cohesion (0–5): Paragraphing, sequencing, cohesion devices, satisfying ending
3. Style, Vocabulary & Register (0–5): Word choice, stylistic features, tone, formality

### Set B — Mechanics (10 marks)
4. Sentence Variety & Control (0–4): Length/type variety, complex construction control
5. Punctuation (0–3): Correctness, range, internal punctuation, deliberate effect
6. Spelling (0–3): Common, irregular, and ambitious word accuracy

### Band Interpretation
- Band 6 (22–25): Outstanding — top-tier selective school level
- Band 5 (18–21): Strong — competitive for selective placement
- Band 4 (14–17): Competent — solid skills, room to sharpen
- Band 3 (10–13): Developing — key areas to work on
- Band 2 (6–9): Emerging — needs focused practice
- Band 1 (0–5): Beginning — building foundational skills

## Writing Genres on the NSW Selective Test

The test may ask students to write in one of three genres:
- Narrative / Recount / Creative — storytelling with plot, character, and setting
